Looking for mom-friendly work to weekend clothing that’s great for summer? Here’s my review of Royal Robbins clothing.
Let me tell you about a brand I came across by accident, but I’ve found to have great work to weekend clothing – and I’d also like to celebrate this month with a Blog Launch Giveaway!
Who is Royal Robbins?
For a while, the name Royal Robbins just kind of deterred me for whatever reason. I would see it at several places that I’d shop online.
I think it just screamed “travel wear” and, up until about the past few years, that term was associated with unattractive clothing that whooshed as you walked (think those North Face pants that might be great for hiking – but not so great for even a business-casual office).
The Royal Robbins clothing company is named after a man who is a pioneer in American rock-climbing. He created this line so we could have functional, yet good-looking clothing that can transition from an office, to the outdoors! I think he’s done a pretty good job!
What made me take another look at this brand? I wish I could remember exactly – but I think the first purchase was the Noe ¾-sleeve in aqua, earlier this year. When I saw how I could wear this top from the workplace, to YOGA, to playing with my kid at home, I was sold.
I soon realized – travel-wear should also be great for Moms, yes? I mean, what normally deems a clothing item travel-worthy is that it is
Nowadays, you can easily find clothing that is attractive, yet packing-friendly! Great features of Royal Robbins clothing include:
-They’re Quick-dry – great for cleaning up quick messes (i.e. baby spit-up – wish I had discovered this brand when my son was a baby!)
-Being wrinkle-resistant – definitely a plus with me!
-RR is eco-conscious! Tencel is a natural fiber that is biodegradable – and it’s soft and great to wear. Tencel also absorbs moisture 50% than cotton, and has anti-bacterial properties. You can see why I absolutely love this brand!
-Functional but good-looking!!!
Their clothing is a bit pricey – but when you consider the great-quality fabric and that the clothing is versatile and will probably wear well for a long time, it’s worth it. Catching sales doesn’t hurt either!
I am working on downsizing my wardrobe a bit – so I am adding pieces to my wardrobe that should wear well and are not so trendy that they fall out of style in the next season or two. I’d rather spend a little bit more, and have high-quality clothing that looks good and lasts year after year, than keep over-spending on discounted items that can barely survive one round in the washer and dryer.
Throw a cardi or a blazer on over, wear with a skirt or slacks, then switch to shorts or jeans after work or for the weekend or while on the road – it all works!
The same can be said for other travel-friendly brands (I also own clothing from Athleta, Patagonia and Columbia that does great “double-duty” as well), but this brand in particular has stood out for me as I’ve purchased several items from their clothing line, and have been able to wear most of them (if not all) to both office and anywhere else.
I’m petite so I haven’t ventured yet into their pants – but I’m eager to try any of them that I can actually get away with wearing to the office, and not be the type you can “hear” (again, like my North Face Horizon pants that are mainly nylon).
Here are some Royal Robbins items for you to check out:
Noe short sleeve top
– my newest addition and already a fave! Several colors available – I got mine in basic black, but this is anything but basic. I think it’s the cowl neckline that dresses it up a bit. Made of Modal, it’s wrinkle-resistant with some stretch, and moisture-wicking, and it has adjustable sleeves, so you can wear as a short sleeve earlier in the day, and as the day heats up, tab the sleeves to make the top a tank top! How cool is that! Pictures make it look funny, but when I finally decided to take a leap, I was so glad I did – I have no problem wearing this at least once a week, all summer long, to the office or to the park with my son! I wore this with a convertible skirt from Merrell just the other day, and Royal Robbins seems to have many similar skirts that can be worn on your more laid-back days at work.
Essential Rio Dress– already becoming a favorite. I got this in a neutral taupe color, as my wardrobe is already blue/green-heavy. Otherwise I would have gotten the green. Who knew that such a lovely dress could be comfortable AND protect you when you’re out in the sun? Yes there’s UPF on this (UPF 50, to be exact)!
I’ve worn it twice in a span of a week. VERY travel-friendly (made of a stretch fabric that is moisture-wicking and wrinkle-resistant), and it’s nice enough to wear to the office! Throw a blazer over it if it’s cooler (or for the AC blasting in the office), and when it warms up and you need to take the blazer off, the dress has cap sleeves so you still look polished! See photo above for the Essential Rio Dress – for reference, I’m 5’0″.
Noe Elbow Sleeve
– in several colors (I purchased aqua) – Breathable Modal fabric, and the hem flares a bit, which is perfect for me with my mom belly! I wore this during a hot slow-flow yoga session once, earlier in the year. I had worn it to work and had forgotten to bring a dedicated workout shirt, so I kept this on – the wicking properties of the fabric are excellent, as advertised. My skin was a little sweaty but you would never know from just looking at the top itself, that I had just had a workout.
Noe 3/4 Sleeve Vee Tee (several colors available – I got mine in purple but am tempted to grab another color) – similar to the elbow sleeve style above, but with a v-neck and button-tab sleeves. LOVE the fabric – again, Tencel at work. Has some stretch, is super-soft, and a “natural” fit (in other words, not body-hugging where you feel bad because your mid-section may not be in the best shape). It also has UPF 25 UV protection. Throw it on, virtually wrinkle-free (even under a pile of clothes), and go!
Release Tee– I’m not a big fan of white tops (other colors available), because I always seem to stain them, but I got this for my Cancun trip in the winter, and though I’m not crazy about the fabric, it is quick-dry, wrinkle-resistant and the floral jacquard print is nice and feminine. (I got to test the quick-dry properties when my son threw my cellphone into the pool, and I had to jump in after it!)
Kick Back Modern Crew – royal blue is one of my fave colors, and I get compliments in this. I can wear over a blazer, and then take the blazer off to be more comfortable at my desk. The neckline is different, which I like. It’s a cotton knit with UPF 50 protection.
Tencel Tunic– another top that’s great for the fall and winter months, with the great Tencel fabric that’s perfect for us on-the-go moms! You can wear with nice ponte pants for the office, or with leggings or skinny jeans for playtime! Even this has UV protection – UPF 50!
Essential Tencel tank – unfortunately, doesn’t look good on me, but LOVE the Tencel fabric!

And…….who doesn’t love Amazon, right? I get just about everything from Amazon, from clothing to accessories I may not be able to readily find in a local store.
*As much as it would have been great, Royal Robbins did NOT compensate me for this review. This just happens to be a brand I came across during my ongoing search for travel- and mom-on-the-go friendly clothing, that can easily go from office to playground, and travel – and I now own several clothing pieces so I can vouch for their high quality! All opinions expressed are my own. I just wanted to share with you a brand that looks good and wears well from work to weekend!
You can find Royal Robbins online as well as at
& Amazon. I hope you find this brand as mom-friendly as I do – I think their clothing is great for any season and goes from work to weekend in a snap!
